ALBIA, IA (IRN) – An Iowa teen faces charges after police discovered a threatening post on Instagram, aimed at Albia schools. KCCI-TV reports the post threatened an active shooting at one of the schools. After investigating, officers found the threat was not credible. The teen, who attends school in the Albia District, has been charged with threat of terrorism and faces discipline by the school district.

CHARLES CITY, IA (IRN) – A fire Monday night killed approximately 6,000 chickens at Zoetis, Inc. in Charles City. KIMT-TV reports the building and its contents are valued at around $3,000,000. Zoetis, Inc. is the world’s largest producer of medicine and vaccinations for pets and livestock.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Brody Middle School community in Des Moines is grieving the loss of one their students for the third time in a year. WHO-TV reports 13-year-old Nariyo Lee was killed when the car he was riding in was hit head-on. Since fall of last year, two other Brody Middle School students have died in crashes. 12-year-old Lea Phann was killed when a driver ran a stop sign and slammed into the car in which she was riding, and 12-year-old Josef Fuller was struck by a car while he was walking to school.

CASCADE, IA (IRN) – A Cascade man was arrested Monday night after he allegedly ran into a parked car and then into a building, causing the second story to be evacuated, according to KWWL-TV. 27-year-old Cody Finzel is facing charges of operating while intoxicated, illegal possession of prescription drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

WEST BRANCH, IA (IRN) – West Branch Police are looking for a group of people they say were involved in 40 vehicle burglaries last weekend. KCRG-TV reports two cars were also stolen. Almost all the cars were unlocked.

AMES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Board of Regents announced Monday that Dr. Wendy Wintersteen will be Iowa State University’s 16th president. Wintersteen is no stranger to Iowa State. She has worked at the university for 38 years. Wintersteen says, “My goal is that we will make Iowa State University the best land-grant university in the nation.”
