DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A man shot during a struggle with a sheriff’s deputy in Davenport has died. KCCI-TV reports 27-year-old Robert Mitchell died at a hospital Tuesday night. A deputy pulled over Mitchell’s vehicle on I-80, a chase ensued, and an altercation occurred that led to the deputy shooting Mitchell.

BUCHANAN COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A 17-year-old boy was seriously hurt after crashing head-on into a farm combine Tuesday near Winthrop. KGAN-TV reports the boy was airlifted to the hospital. His passenger, a 15-year-old girl, was transported with minor injuries. The combine driver was treated and released at the scene.

NEWTON, IA (IRN) – Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused the Walnut Creek Apartments in Newton to go up in flames Monday. KCCI-TV reports resident Arlene Craver, 94, said heavy smoke filled the air as all 24 units were evacuated. She said, “the fireman came in and banged on the door and said, ‘Get out!’” Craver said she lost her husband just weeks ago, and now, she doesn’t have a home. All residents were evacuated safely, but some pets did not survive.

DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – Dubuque will soon begin construction to improve cell phone and broadband signals in the city, but some residents are objecting. KCRG-TV reports at the most recent city council meeting, community members showed up to express their concern about potential health risks from the 5G frequency emissions. City officials say it is too late to get out of their contract, and the health risks are minimal.

GALENA TERRITORY, IL (IRN) – University of Iowa officials have santioned the Sigma Nu fraternity for damage caused to properties in Illinois. The fraternity rented out several properties in the Galena Territory, a lakeside community in Illinois in 2017. By the end of the weekend, they caused more than $100,000 in damages.
