SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – One person has died after a motorcycle crash in Sioux City Tuesday. KCAU-TV reports the motorcycle was going at a high rate of speed, left the road, and hit a light pole. The motorcyclist was taken to MercyOne where he later died from his injuries.

OMAHA, NE (IRN) – Federal officials say tougher standards for school bus drivers could have prevented deaths in a 2017 school bus fire in Oakland, Iowa. The 74-year-old bus driver Donald Hendricks, who died in the fire along with his 16-year-old passenger Megan Klindt, had mobility issues that limited his ability to evacuate the bus. National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Robert Sumwalt said, “by God if you’re a school district you have a responsibility to make sure that you’re providing the oversight that those kids deserve.”

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A man behind several Des Moines metro convenience store robberies is behind bars thanks to social media. KCCI-TV reports Dan Toomey, 55, is charged with five counts of second-degree robbery after people recognized him after surveillance photos were posted to Facebook.

ESTHERVILLE, IA (IRN) – An Emmet County man has been accused of stealing nearly $30,000 from a north-central Iowa high school booster club he helped manage. The Sioux City Journal reports that Timothy Loock, of Estherville, has been charged with first-degree theft.

MUSCATINE, IA (IRN) – An early morning fire yesterday caused damage to a single-family home in Muscatine, according to KCRG. Residents were safely outside by the time emergency crews arrived, but five dogs were still inside. The dogs were saved, though one had to be revived using modified CPR by a firefighter. Four others received oxygen on-site using pet-sized masks.
