ANKENY, IA (IRN) – An Ankeny business owner was arrested Wednesday for allegedly selling products containing cannabidiol, or CBD, while unlicensed by the state, the first charge of its kind in Polk County, according to the county attorney’s office. Ankeny police arrested Lacie Navin, 33, of Des Moines at her business, Your CBD Store.

LU VERNE, IA (IRN) – A Coralville man faces a murder charge for a deadly bank robbery, according to KGAN-TV. 35-year-old Valentino Williams is also charged with robbery. He’s behind bars in the Kossuth County jail. Police say he shot a 43-year-old woman outside of the Security State Bank in Lu Verne yesterday morning before the bank opened. Bank employee Jessica Weishaar, of Algona, died at the scene.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines man is in Polk County Jail on charges stemming from a fatal crash on I-235 in November. KCCI-TV reports police charged 23-year-old Devin Russell Smith with one count of homicide by vehicle — drag racing in connection with the death of 22-year-old Dimitrious Galvan. Galvan was thrown from his vehicle and died after losing control and crashing. Their vehicles reached speeds in excess of 100 mph.

BETTENDORF, IA (IRN) – Iowa congressional candidate Bobby Schilling has fired his campaign political coordinator. WQAD-TV reports the blowback comes after an immigration forum at a church in Bettendorf on Monday that featured a far-right activist with links to white nationalists. Schilling, a Republican candidate for Iowa’s 2nd District, fired his campaign field director Michael Sisco, after it became clear to him that Sisco allowed a far-right activist to speak at the forum.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines police officer was turning right at a red light when the officer hit and injured a pedestrian Thursday, according to WHO-TV. The woman suffered minor injuries. She’s expected to be okay.
