DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Department of Public Health released new statistics on COVID-19 in the state Tuesday. IDPH reported 19 deaths and 408 new cases. It’s the largest single-day increase in deaths. That brings the statewide total to 10,111 and 207 deaths.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Des Moines Youth Emergency Services and Shelter says a staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. The infected staffer was last at work a week ago and showed no symptoms. Four older residents living in one unit were under the staffer’s care. The shelter is now taking their temperatures hourly. None show any symptoms of the virus.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Games are still trying to decide whether they’ll be able to proceed with their events amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Air gun, rowing, clay-target trapshooting, figure skating, and lacrosse have all been canceled. The bowling finals have been moved to August. All other sports are on, as scheduled, for now.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A body found in the Des Moines River Saturday is that of 18-year-old Abdullahi “Abdi” Sharif. KCCI-TV reports Sharif was last seen Jan. 17 as he left the Target store at the Merle Hay Mall. For more than three months, his mother tearfully begged for his safe return. ​She watched from his Des Moines bedroom window, always holding out hope he would return alive. ​

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A new poll shows a tight race for one of Iowa’s U.S. Senate seats. In the poll, Sen. Joni Ernst leads Democrat Theresa Greenfield by a single point, 43% to 42% Greenfield is one of four democrats running for their party’s nomination in the June 2 primary.
