FOREST CITY, IA (IRN) – A Forest City man is dead after an ATV crash in northern Iowa. The Iowa State Patrol reports the vehicle went off a terrace near Forest City, and rolled. 49-year-old John West was thrown off and killed. Someone else on the ATV was flown to an area hospital but is expected to survive.

ALGONA, IA (IRN) – A Mason City homicide suspect is in custody following a standoff with police in Algona. 38-year-old Benjamin B. Gonzalez is wanted on first-degree murder charges in connection with a deadly shooting on March 31.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – The state of Iowa will pay $225,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a man who was injured when a state trooper knocked him over and put his knee on his neck during a 2017 traffic stop. The payment to Bryce Yakish ends a lawsuit he filed against the state and former Iowa State Patrol trooper Robert Smith in 2019, months after a sheriff released dash camera video of the arrest.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – The University of Iowa will lend $50 million from its cash reserves to the athletic department, set to be repaid over the next 10-15 years. The loan is needed because of lost revenues due to the pandemic. Despite the loan, Iowa’s athletic department will continue to be a self-sustaining operation.

WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The parking lot of Valley West Mall’s former Younkers in West Des Moines could soon become the home of a drive-in movie theater. The plan is to install a 36-feet by 10-feet LED movie screen in the parking lot and show some new and classic family films. The plan, which is being considered by the West Des Moines City Council, would allow for more than 100 cars and includes locations for food and games.
