WAVERLY, IA (IRN) – Waverly police say two teenagers are facing sexual abuse and false imprisonment charges after allegedly holding a teen against her will. Police said Chad Chapline, 17, of Ogden, and a 15-year-old boy repeatedly sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl while threatening her with a knife. The alleged assaults reportedly spanned from Saturday to Sunday in a treehouse in a wooded area in southwest Waverly.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A convenience store on Des Moines’ east side has been robbed three times in the last three weeks. The gunman walked into the Git-N-Go store Thursday night and put a handgun to the clerk’s head at about 11 p.m. last night. A friend of the cashier was in the store and tried to save them, and was shot in the arm. He is expected to survive. The gunman ran away without any money. This location has been robbed four times this year, including three times in the last three weeks.

HUTCHINSON, KS (IRN) – The Siemens Gamesa plants in Hutchinson, Kansas, and Fort Madison, Iowa, will be shut down and most employees will be laid off this summer. The company, which is based in Spain, said the plants could reopen if market conditions improve. The 171 employees in Iowa and 92 in Kansas will be laid off and will be offered severance packages. The Iowa plant, which manufactures wind turbine blades, will close in June.

IOWA (IRN) – Iowa’s initial unemployment claims for April are the lowest monthly numbers seen since 1973. Only 5,290 unemployment claims were made last month.
