DES MOINES – The Iowa House passed another version of property tax legislation, but no agreement has been reached as the session passes its original deadline. KCCI-TV reports an amended version of Senate File 2472 passed in a 64-23 vote on Wednesday, which included several changes from the version that nearly passed the Iowa Senate unanimously earlier this month. The new version imposes a 2% hard cap on revenue growth for city and county governments.
IOWA CITY – An arrest warrant has been issued in relation to a shooting in Iowa City that injured five people this past weekend. WHO-13 reports Iowa City Police held a press conference on Wednesday that detailed more about the incident that injured three University of Iowa students. A large fight broke out early Sunday morning involving approximately 40 people. Police claim that 17-year-old Damarian Jones of Cedar Rapids was involved in the fight and acquired a fireman and fired six shots into the crowd. He faces five counts of attempted murder.
IOWA – It could be another active severe weather day across the state. Scattered storms could produce damaging wind and isolated tornadoes in pockets of Iowa. Thousands of people are expected to be at the Drake Relays starting today as well, and the National Weather Service reminds those who attend outdoor activities to stay weather aware.
