DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – An innocent woman who was shot in the head Friday at a Family Dollar store in Des Moines has died–a victim of possible gang violence. KCCI-TV reports 55-year-old Barbara Perry, of Des Moines, was caught in the crossfire while she was with her 10-year-old granddaughter near the DMACC Urban Campus. The girl ran into the store while Perry waited in the car. She returned to find her grandmother shot in the head.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A 10-year-old boy died while bicycling in Davenport Friday, according to WQAD-TV. He was riding his bike down a hill at Fairmount Cemetery when he lost control and struck a tree. Paramedics rushed to the scene but the boy died from his injuries. The child’s name is not being released until family members are notified.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – An Iowa businessman who owns three bars has been imprisoned for federal tax evasion. 51-year-old Bradley Tischer, of Atkins, was given 18 months and fined $5,000. He also was ordered to make restitution of nearly $3,000. Prosecutors say Tischer underpaid his taxes from 2009 through 2013 because he didn’t report all his income.

IOWA CITY and AMES, IA (IRN) – The 17th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes won their first game of the season on Saturday, 45-21 over Miami of Ohio. Iowa State fell to Northern Iowa by a score of 25-20 at a sold-out Jack Trice Stadium. A 1-yard touchdown run by Panther running back J’Veyon Browning with 2:49 left in the game proved to be the difference. With the win, Northern Iowa head coach Mark Farley recorded his 130th career victory, which surpasses Stan Sheriff for the school record.
