IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – A 31-year-old Cedar Rapids man is facing multiple charges of sexual abuse stemming from four different incidents in Iowa City. KCRG-TV reports Carlos Hivento allegedly grabbed a woman outside of a bar and took her to the roof where he raped her. In another incident Hivento met a woman at a bar and asked her to dance before pulling her to an alley and up to the bar’s rooftop where he raped her. In both incidents, he took their phones from them.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A fired Des Moines police officer has been denied unemployment benefits after lying about being struck by a vehicle while working — a claim her body camera video shows is not true. WHO-TV reports former officer Lourdes Hadenfeldt claimed that she was struck on the arm by a car as she tried to flag down a driver. Body camera video shows the car never struck her.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Appeals Court has ruled against a convicted killer who says he “died” during a medical emergency and thus fulfilled his life sentence. Wapello County court records say Benjamin Schreiber has been serving the life term since being convicted in 1997 of beating a man to death. Schreiber says his heart stopped five times on March 30, 2015, at a hospital where he’d been taken from the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison. Schreiber says that because he momentarily died before being resuscitated at the hospital, he should be freed. The judge ruled his is alive, and should serve his term.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – State and local officials joined executives from Allegiant Travel Company Friday as the company announced plans to establish a two-aircraft base at Des Moines International Airport. The announcement heralds the leisure airline’s 20th base of operations, a $50 million investment which will locate two Airbus A320 aircraft in Des Moines, bringing at least 66 new, high-wage jobs to the community.
