JEFFERSON COUNTY, IA (IRN) – One person was injured and livestock were killed when a truck went into a creek in Jefferson County this morning, according to KCII-radio. The tractor trailer was loaded with cattle and left the roadway, entered a ditch and came to rest partially submerged in the creek. The driver was extricated and transported to the University of Iowa Hospital. RED OAK, IA (IRN) – Police arrested a ten-year-old Iowa boy Monday after he tried to sell marijuana to a classmate. KWQC-TV reports after the incident at Washington School in Red Oak, police searched a nearby home. 34-year-old Erin Bartles was arrested. Police say before the incident occurred the boy learned where Bartles had some marijuana hidden and took it. The boy was referred to juvenile authorities. WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – A Waterloo man has been charged with first degree murder in the death of a four-year-old child found unconscious in July. KCRG-TV reports charges have been filed against 23-year-old Walter Williams, who was already in the Black Hawk County Jail on unrelated charges. The child died from blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen. OTTUMWA, IA (IRN) – Fake money is being passed in Ottumwa, according to KTVO-TV. Merchants are finding counterfeit ten and 50 dollar bills in their cash registers. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Nearly 400 Iowa National Guard soldiers are preparing for overseas deployment after President Trump said he would send nearly 4,000 additional troops to Afghanistan. The soldiers are currently stationed in Muscatine, Davenport, Waterloo, and Boone. WINTERSET, IA (IRN) – An 11-year-old girl is lucky to be alive after she was hit by a car while riding a bicycle in Winterset. Trooper Alex Dinkla of the Iowa State Patrol happened to be driving nearby when the accident happened, and heard the girl scream. She was trapped between her bicycle and the car, and Dinkla was able to free her. He says she is a lucky girl, and is glad she wore a helmet. It was crushed in the collision. The girl suffered minor injuries.

CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – A 16-year-old Cedar Falls boy faces charges after police say he took photos of a younger teen changing clothes. The Courier reports that the boy was charged with dissemination of obscene material to minors and exploitation of a minor, both misdemeanors. The case was referred to juvenile court. Police say the incident took place last year when a 13-year-old girl was photographed with an electronic device while changing. JOHNSTON, IA (IRN) – Police in Des Moines and Johnston are thanking the public for help in the capture of an armed robbery suspect. 17-year-old James Henderson was taken into custody Thursday by the Des Moines Police Department. Henderson is allegedly responsible for a number of armed robberies in both cities. A $1,000 reward was offered for information leading to his arrest. WAYNE COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A Centerville man was killed in a collision Wednesday in rural Wayne County. The Iowa State Patrol reports 55-year-old Jeffrey Bowen was eastbound and crossed the center line into the westbound lane. A 47-year-old Plano woman was driving an SUV westbound and tried to avoid Bowen’s car by steering left. Bowen then tried to steer back into the eastbound lane. The two vehicles collided on their passenger sides. The woman wasn’t injured. POWESHIEK COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A black bear has been spotted near Barnes City in Poweshiek County, according to WHO-TV. A deputy and a DNR officer spotted the bear at the edge of a cornfield. They say the bear hasn’t been aggressive, and shouldn’t be considered a threat. Authorities request that the public leave the bear alone, and not to hunt it. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa is making a bid for Amazon’s second North American headquarters, which would potentially bring tens of thousands of new, high-paying jobs to the Des Moines metro or the Council Bluffs/Omaha area. KCCI-TV reports the quest to bring the $5 billion project – which comes with 50,000 jobs with an average salary of $100,000 – will not be easy, as many other cities are competing for the project. MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – A Mason City woman’s wedding pictures have gone viral. Samantha Clark is a 2012 graduate of Mason City High. Instead of carrying bouquets down the aisle on her big day, she and her bridesmaids carried puppies loaned from a shelter to encourage animal adoptions. She’s been told that all of the puppies have now found homes.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A home daycare provider in Davenport has been arrested and charged with four counts of child endangerment causing serious injury to two infants. WQAD-TV reports 44-year-old Amy Smith operates a daycare out of her home. One infant suffered fractures to a leg and arm, a fractured wrist and a rib fracture consistent with being squeezed. Another child suffered multiple bruises on the face and head, lacerations under her eye, on her mouth and on her wrists. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – An Iowa City woman is facing charges after allegedly leaving her child home alone so she could go out drinking. KGAN-TV reports police were called to a residence for a welfare check on a child and her mother. Upon arrival, police found 21-year-old Brianna Gore highly intoxicated with her 14-month-old daughter. Police found that Gore had left the home to go out and drink, lied about who was taking care of the child while she was gone, and only returned home after drinking a large amount of alcohol and becoming ill. MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – A north Iowa man who killed two people has been sentenced to two consecutive life terms plus 25 years in prison. The Globe Gazette reports that 31-year-old Peter Veal, of Lake Mills, was sentenced Tuesday after being convicted in July of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. Veal shot one person and stabbed another to death. A witness to the killings was able to escape when Veal’s gun jammed. FORT DODGE, IA (IRN) – A manhunt is underway in Fort Dodge for a man police believe shot another man to death in the street. Fort Dodge police say 27-year-old Levi Gibbs III is wanted for murder. He is considered armed and dangerous. SEYMOUR, IA (IRN) – A town still recovering from tornado damage is now looking for vandals who damaged the school football field. KCCI-TV reports school officials in Seymour are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of whoever tore up the field by driving around in it with their vehicle. An EF-2 tornado hit Seymour in March. Crews had just finished rebuilding the press box in time for the school’s first game. IOWA (IRN) – Iowa’s state attorney general is calling on Iowans to act now following the Equifax data breach. Last week, the credit monitoring company said a cyberattack exposed the sensitive information of millions. Equifax says the names, social security numbers, birth dates, addresses, and possibly driver’s license numbers of about 143 million Americans was exposed. Attorney General Tom Miller says the breach includes the information of more than a million Iowans.

GLENWOOD, IA (IRN) – A Glenwood mother is accused of drugging her 8-year-old daughter over a prolonged period of time causing her death. KETV reports 34-year-old Misty Frazier faces two felony charges. Frazier allegedly gave her daughter non-prescribed Amitriptyline (AM-ih-trip-tuh-lene) pills causing toxic blood levels resulting in her death. IOWA (IRN) – Iowa’s state government agreed Monday to pay more than $1.6 million to settle 10 lawsuits, most dealing with hiring or promotion biases, according to the Des Moines Register. Most of the lawsuits alleged racial bias by the state. BUCHANAN COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A woman was killed in a Buchanan county crash, according to the Iowa State Patrol. 47-year-old Tamara Miller-Fuller, of Hazleton struck a semi head on. She wasn’t wearing a seat belt. The semi driver was uninjured. JONES COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A Monticello man is behind bars Monday after admitting to strangling a dog until it went limp and its eye popped out of its socket. KCRG-TV reports that 31-year-old Dustin Rickels faces numerous charges. The dog was a shih tzu/maltese mix and weighed approximately eight pounds. Rickels says the dog was making messes in the house. FLORIDA (IRN) – Nearly 500 workers from MidAmerican and Alliant Energy are heading to Florida to help restore power. MidAmerican Energy has sent more than 250 employees to help out, and Alliant Energy is also dispatching around 200 employees from Iowa and Wisconsin to the hurricane zone. They will join more than 18,000 utility crews from across 30 states and Canada working to restore power to more than 6 million people. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Structural work began Monday on the new Ronald McDonald House in Des Moines, according to KCCI-TV. The new house will be 17,000 square feet and will include a state-of-the-art kitchen, family rooms and a playground. Workers plan to build around the clock through September 22 — completing the project in 228 hours, or 11 days. Since opening, Ronald McDonald House has helped more than 17,000 families.

IOWA (IRN) – 19 Iowa Army National Guard soldiers are deploying today for Hurricane Irma missions with four helicopters. The Iowa soldiers will come from units based in Boone, Davenport, Iowa City and Waterloo. The Guard says the Iowans will move supplies, equipment and people and support searches and rescues. BURLINGTON, IA (IRN) – A man is dead after a shooting early Sunday morning in Burlington. WQAD-TV reports 26-year-old Demarcus Chew was transported to an area hospital where he died. No arrests have been made. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police have arrested the sister of a woman who was stabbed to death Sunday in the city’s 24th homicide of the year. KCCI-TV reports first responders were called to an apartment building, and found 30-year-old Lakeisha McDuffy dying of stab wounds in a hallway. Her sister, 31-year-old Ieisha McDuffy of Chicago, has been charged with murder. The sisters were visiting a relative who lives at the apartment. MARSHALL COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A pedestrian was killed in a motor vehicle crash in Marshall County Saturday night. 85-year-old Barbara Miller of Marshalltown hit and killed 40-year-old Holly Boone, who was standing in the roadway. Troopers are investigating to determine if the time of day, speed, or alcohol played a factor in the crash. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowans are honoring the victims of the 9/11 attacks today by taking part in the 9/11 March to the Capitol. WHO-TV reports Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg will speak at an opening ceremony at Waukee’s Centennial Park. Attendees will then walk 21 miles to the state capitol building to pay their respects to the victims of the 2001 attacks. DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – The funeral for an Iowa police officer attracted more than 500 people, including roughly 200 law enforcement officers. The Dubuque Telegraph-Herald reports that the funeral for 40-year-old Anamosa police officer Mitchell Kelchen was held Saturday. He died Sept. 2 after a crash that also seriously injured his wife. Co-workers and family remembered Kelchen as a great guy who could be depended on.
