DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – Police are working to identify a body that was pulled from the Mississippi River near Dubuque on Sunday. WQAD-TV reports the body could not be immediately identified because of decomposition. Authorities say it could be 19-year-old Allison Morgan who disappeared January 2. Witnesses say she abandoned her car on a bridge, climbed over the rail, and disappeared five miles upstream of where the body was found. DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A motorcyclist is dead after a crash involving a car in Dubuque yesterday, according to KWWL-TV. The cause of the crash isn’t known. The victim was taken to a local hospital, but did not survive. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A new federal courthouse is going to be constructed at the former site of the Riverfront YMCA in downtown Des Moines, but the city of Des Moines isn’t happy. WHO-TV reports city officials say the site is one of the best pieces of real estate in Iowa, and it will now be off the tax roles. The city had a riverfront experience with cafés and restaurants in mind. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines Firefighter has a new nickname after making two special deliveries this month. KCCI-TV reports Des Moines fire engineer Brian Schmitz is now being called “the Stork” after he helped deliver two babies. After 13 years on the department, Schmitz had never delivered a baby until he delivered two in a span of just weeks. Both babies are doing fine.

WEST BRANCH, IA (IRN) – A driver died in a crash on Interstate 80 after crashing into a bridge support column near West Branch. The Iowa State Patrol reports the driver went into the median, hit a bridge support and was thrown from the vehicle, a 2012 Dodge Journey. The Journey then caught fire. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Animal Rescue League helped Des Moines Police to remove 85 chickens and roosters from a property on the east side of Des Moines. KCCI-TV reports Mariano Martinez Ramirez has been charged with felony animal contest and possession of a contest device among other charges. The roosters were used for illegal cockfighting. DECATUR COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A 69-year-old man died and two children were hospitalized Saturday after the man lost control of his pickup truck in rural Decatur County and hit a telephone pole. The Iowa State Patrol reports James Young lost traction on a gravel road, slid sideways, landed in a ditch and struck the pole. Young, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the truck and killed. The condition of the children is unknown. NEW VIRGINIA, IA (IRN) – Fire investigators in the town of New Virginia are working to determine what caused a house to catch fire Sunday. WHO-TV reports the abandoned house was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. They suspect arson. CHARLES CITY, IA (IRN) – A 15-year-old Charles City boy fatally injured in an ATV crash earlier this month has donated his organs. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports Logan Luft was pronounced brain dead on Wednesday. Logan’s organs went to five different people. Logan won’t be able to pursue his dream of winning a state wrestling title, but a friend who won two titles plans to donate his medals so Logan can be buried with them. BURLINGTON, IA (IRN) – One Iowa company thinks there’s money to be made on the sunny roof of the Burlington Public Works building. The Hawk Eye reports that Moxie Solar, a North Liberty solar energy company, is in talks with the city of Burlington about putting solar panels on the building. If approved, the city could save up to 10% on its energy bill.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A 13-year-old male was pulled from the Birdland Marina in Des Moines on Friday. WHO-TV reports the incident is being investigated, but there is no indication of criminal activity. The victim’s name has not been released. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Three people were injured during a shooting near a Wendy’s in Cedar Rapids Saturday night. KCRG-TV reports after the shooting, two of the victims ran to the Wendy’s for safety. A witness says the shooter told the victims, “you know, what goes around comes around.” The witness knew the victims and believes the shooting was in retaliation for a homicide at a Cedar Rapids Walmart earlier this week. MAXWELL, IA (IRN) – A man was taken to the hospital following a fire in Maxwell Saturday. KWWL-TV reports The garage was damaged, and investigators are working to determine what sparked the fire. The owners of the home were able to make it out in time, but one person was taken to the hospital with burns on his arm after trying to save his truck from the burning garage. LINCOLN, NE (IRN) – Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol and Iowa State Patrol arrested a motorcyclist who led them on a high speed chase on Interstate 80, starting in Lincoln, Nebraska, and ending in Iowa. When speeds exceeded 100 mph, Nebraska troopers backed off, and a helicopter joined the chase. After the motorcyclist entered Iowa, Iowa troopers were able to stop him. He ran, but was soon caught. 22-year old Devon Brogdon, of Omaha, was turned over to Nebraska troopers.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Runnells man who pled guilty for conspiring to transport a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity was sentenced to life in prison Friday. 51-year-old Michael Lee Williams pled guilty of conspiring to transport a minor from Minnesota to Polk County with the intent to engage in unlawful sexual activity, and that, at the time he committed the offense, he was a registered sex offender. LINN COUNTY, IA (IRN) – One person was killed and another injured in a motorcycle/car accident in rural Linn County Friday. KWWL-TV reports a 56-year-old woman was making a turn when she was struck by a 23-year-old man on a motorcycle. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman driver of the vehicle has minor injuries. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police and a fire department water rescue team have recovered a body from the Birdland Marina, according to WHO-TV. The identity of the victim has not yet been determined, and the incident is under investigation. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A 4-year-old Des Moines girl accidentally shot herself in the leg. KCCI-TV reports the girl found the firearm underneath her parents’ bed and took the gun into her room and ended up shooting herself in the thigh. The parents might face charges. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – An Iowa woman charged with voting twice for Donald Trump has pled guilty to election misconduct. KCRG-TV reports 56-year-old Terri Lynn Rote turned in two absentee ballots before the election because she believed Trump’s unsubstantiated claims that the election was rigged and that her first ballot would be changed to a vote for Hillary Clinton. She was arrested at a satellite voting location in Des Moines, attempting to vote the second ballot. Attorneys are recommending two years of probation and community service.

OMAHA, NE (IRN) – An Omaha man has been arrested for allegedly making threats against Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst. The arrest was made this morning. The Omaha Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested 64-year-old Robert William Simet. He was apprehended by the FBI for making threats to assault Senator Ernst. DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A Dubuque toddler is recovering after a wolf attacked her. KCRG-TV reports two-year-old Addelyn Walker was visiting her great grandmother in May and the wolf was caged on her property. It grabbed Addelyn through the cage and severely injured her arm. The wolf was put down after the attack. Addelyn is facing two more surgeries. MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – A baby who was injured in a June 25 collision in Winnebago County has now died. KIMT-TV reports Joseph Ebeling, who was 26 days old at the time of the crash, was flown to Iowa City for treatment and was pronounced dead Wednesday at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. McKenna Blong, the driver of the vehicle Joseph was in, ran a stop sign and their vehicle was hit by an oncoming car. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Fireworks sent two Des Moines men to the hospital yesterday, according to KCCI-TV. One suffered injuries to his face and left hand, while the other injured his right hand. Neighbors say the two men were setting off fireworks while holding them in their hands. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A group of 19 state attorneys general, including Iowa’s Tom Miller, are suing Education Secretary Betsy DeVos for delaying an overhaul of rules to erase the federal student debt of borrowers defrauded by for-profit colleges. Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, who is leading the lawsuit says, “Her decision to cancel vital protections for students and taxpayers is a betrayal of her office’s responsibility and a violation of federal law.” DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is part of a rap music video, according to CNN. “Droppin’” by Des Moines rapper Will Keeps was released Thursday. The message is a community-wide call to end gun violence. Reynolds says, “It’s moving, it’s factual and it’s what we’re facing … and it’s what we have to do as a community.” Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg, a Des Moines police chief, and a pastor also participated. CASCADE, IA (IRN) – Multiple agencies responded Thursday night to a report of a suspicious package at the Dollar General store in Cascade. KCRG-TV reports police closed several roads, brought in a bomb sniffing dog, and bomb technicians to investigate the black plastic container. After their investigation, it was determined that the suspicious package was actually a case of power tools.
