FLOYD COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A North Iowa man awaiting trial on accusations of rape is now asking to have the location of his trial moved out of Floyd County. KIMT-TV reports 47-year-old Stephen Brodersen, Jr., of Greene, was scheduled to stand trial on a charge of 3rd degree sexual abuse for assaulting a female houseguest at his home in Marble Rock. Brodersen arrived in Iowa after serving more than 20 years in prison in Maine for the murder of his mother. CLIVE, IA (IRN) – One person has died and several others were wounded in a shooting outside the 7 Flags Event Center in Clive early this morning. KCCI-TV reports there was an altercation inside the building that spilled out into the parking lot where shots were fired. The Center had been hosting the 2nd Annual All-Black Party – where people are invited to wear all black. About 120 people were there. DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A Dubuque man sexually assaulted a woman and tried to kill her before shooting himself. KCRG-TV reports 34-year-old Anthony Foht faces attempted murder, sexual abuse and burglary charges. Foht went to the home of a woman he knew Tuesday, and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint. He then tried to shoot her, but the gun misfired, which allowed the woman to get away. Foht then shot himself. He went to the hospital, where police arrested him. FORT DODGE, IA (IRN) – Two juveniles, ages 13 and 12, face felony robbery charges in Fort Dodge. WHO-TV reports the victim of the robbery was approached by two juvenile males who had a pistol and demanded his phone. The juveniles took the phone and rode away on bikes. Police found the two a few blocks away. They were in possession of a realistic airsoft pistol and the victim’s phone. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines is welcoming its newest member. WOI-TV reports Maxwell the tiger moved into his new home about two months ago and has been in his exhibit for a short time. He’s six years old and weighs 400 pounds. Max came from Chicago to mate with Misha, Blank Park’s female tiger.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – An innocent woman who was shot in the head Friday at a Family Dollar store in Des Moines has died–a victim of possible gang violence. KCCI-TV reports 55-year-old Barbara Perry, of Des Moines, was caught in the crossfire while she was with her 10-year-old granddaughter near the DMACC Urban Campus. The girl ran into the store while Perry waited in the car. She returned to find her grandmother shot in the head. DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A 10-year-old boy died while bicycling in Davenport Friday, according to WQAD-TV. He was riding his bike down a hill at Fairmount Cemetery when he lost control and struck a tree. Paramedics rushed to the scene but the boy died from his injuries. The child’s name is not being released until family members are notified. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – An Iowa businessman who owns three bars has been imprisoned for federal tax evasion. 51-year-old Bradley Tischer, of Atkins, was given 18 months and fined $5,000. He also was ordered to make restitution of nearly $3,000. Prosecutors say Tischer underpaid his taxes from 2009 through 2013 because he didn’t report all his income. IOWA CITY and AMES, IA (IRN) – The 17th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes won their first game of the season on Saturday, 45-21 over Miami of Ohio. Iowa State fell to Northern Iowa by a score of 25-20 at a sold-out Jack Trice Stadium. A 1-yard touchdown run by Panther running back J’Veyon Browning with 2:49 left in the game proved to be the difference. With the win, Northern Iowa head coach Mark Farley recorded his 130th career victory, which surpasses Stan Sheriff for the school record.

PAWNEE, OK (IRN) – An earthquake with an epicenter near Pawnee, Oklahoma was felt in much of Iowa this morning. The U.S. Geological Survey reports that the 5.6 magnitude earthquake happened at 7:02 a.m. today. That ties for Oklahoma’s strongest earthquake on record, the first coming in November 2011. No major damage was immediately reported. WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – Police in Waterloo have arrested four people, including two teenagers, in connection to the murder of a Waterloo man. KGAN-TV reports on July 17, 21-year-old Otavious Brown died from a gunshot wound to the chest. Two others were wounded. The four face charges of Murder in the 1st Degree, Attempted Murder, and Intimidation with a Weapon. CORALVILLE, IA (IRN) – Two people were wounded in a shooting at a Coralville apartment complex yesterday, according to KCRG-TV. Both are expected to survive. Police say this is a targeted incident where both the suspects and victims knew each other, and do not believe this is a random shooting. FOREST CITY, IA – A Winnebago County man has been charged with two counts of 2nd degree theft and three counts of 3rd degree burglary. KIMT-TV reports 26-year-old Tylor Anderson of Forest City broke into two locked storage garages and took two sets of golf clubs. He’s also accused of breaking into two locked storage containers and a locked semi trailer, allegedly stealing two window air conditioners, a “Shark Rocket” vacuum, a 3’x10’ swimming pool and a tent. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Developers announced Friday new details about the 26-story Blackbird Development building in downtown Des Moines. KCCI-TV reports the $85 million project will feature a 10,000-square-foot roof deck with a cantilevered pool, fire pits and cabanas. The building will have ground floor commercial space, 276 luxury apartments, a co-working space for residents and an electric vehicle garage.

CLAYTON COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A Clayton Ridge school bus was involved in a head-on crash with a motorcycle Thursday afternoon. KWWL-TV reports no students on the bus were hurt, but the person on the motorcycle died. INDIANOLA, IA (IRN) – The Iowa State Patrol is investigating a Thursday afternoon crash involving a school bus. The accident happened just west of Indianola on Highway 92, where the bus collided with a semi-truck. Two students were on the bus at the time. The pair, along with the bus driver, suffered minor injuries. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A man who worked for the Cedar Rapids Community School District as a school bus attendant has pled guilty to child enticement. KGAN-TV reports 20-year-old Tyler Konigsmark is accused of sexually abusing children as well as soliciting sexually explicit photos of children. Konigsmark was hired as a school bus attendant for Taft and Harding middle schools. The incidents involve students at the schools. WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – Just days after Waterloo police made a bust in a human trafficking case, they’re now saying a baby is involved. KCRG-TV reports on Monday, Lawrence Campbell appeared in court on human trafficking charges. Authorities say Campbell ordered two 16-year-old girls to engage in prostitution and steal clothes. It turns out one of the girls had a baby. Both girls and the baby are safe back at home in Chicago. Police believe the girls were in Waterloo for about a week. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines criminal defense attorney is facing felony drug charges after authorities found marijuana, hash, painkillers and other drugs during a June search of his townhouse. The Des Moines Register reports authorities began their investigation of 33-year-old Philip Colt Moss after receiving an anonymous tip. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A former Nora Springs postmaster has entered a guilty plea in federal court after being accused of stealing from the U.S. Postal Service. KIMT-TV reports DeAnn Lewman has pled guilty to one count of false entry in exchange for 43 other counts being dropped. Lewman took nearly $3,000 in cash and stamps, and nearly $3,100 meant to buy money orders. NEVADA, IA (IRN) – A Nevada man is recovering after hundreds — if not thousands — of wasps attacked him, according to KCCI-TV. 78-year-old Larry Barker says “I kept hitting them and running as hard as I could, but I couldn’t get away from them.” Barker passed out from the stings, but medics were able to rush him to the hospital, where he went into a coma. Two weeks after the attack, he still has trouble walking. He says he would be dead if it were not for the rescue crew, and adds “they saved my life, and I’d like to thank them.”

FAIRFIELD, IA (IRN) – An inmate in the Jefferson County Jail escaped custody Tuesday, according to KCII-radio. James Surber Jr. was being held on a charge of 2nd Degree Theft of a Motor Vehicle. After escaping, he traveled to Ottumwa, where he abandoned the vehicle he was driving. Surber had contacted Fairfield police with information about an open case and offered his assistance. The police conducted an operation with Surber, and he used the opportunity to escape. DES MOINES, IA – Federal authorities have issued search warrants at 20 locations in the Des Moines metro today. The raids are being conducted by the Des Moines Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in association with the ATF, the IRS, ICE, Homeland Security, U.S. Marshal’s, and other agencies. No other details are available. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – A February trial has been scheduled for an Iowa woman who authorities say tried to flush her newborn down a toilet and then left it for dead in a trash can. KGAN-TV reports Ashley Hautzenrader has pled not guilty to attempted murder and child endangerment. Her trial is set to begin Feb. 14. Hautzenrader, who lives in Davenport, told authorities she left the baby in the trash because she thought the child had died. SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – A judge has suspended the prison sentence of a Sioux City teenager serving 10 years for selling synthetic marijuana that caused the death of another teen. The Sioux City Journal reports 19-year-old Rose Mouw’s remaining prison term was suspended and she was placed on four years’ probation. Mouw admitted to buying synthetic marijuana in Nebraska, then selling it to 18-year-old Austin McCloud, who died after smoking the drug. BOONE COUNTY, IA – Protesters rallied in Boone County near the Farm Progress Show against the Bakken pipeline Wednesday. KCCI-TV reports about 20 protesters were arrested on a trespassing charge and taken to the Boone County Jail. They oppose the use of eminent domain for private companies, and say the pipeline will likely harm soil, air, and water quality. DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A Davenport mother is facing criminal charges for not making sure her child gets to school. WQAD-TV reports the woman’s 14-year-old had 35 unexcused absences during the past school year. Iowa law says it’s mandatory for children who are in kindergarten through age of 16 to attend school. MARSHALLTOWN, IA – A Marshalltown school board member who resigned his post as a prosecutor for Marshall County has pled not guilty to trespassing and theft charges, according to KWWL-TV. Authorities say a co-worker accused Ben Stansberry of stealing her underwear from her home.
