FOREST CITY, IA (IRN) – A Forest City man is dead after an ATV crash in northern Iowa. The Iowa State Patrol reports the vehicle went off a terrace near Forest City, and rolled. 49-year-old John West was thrown off and killed. Someone else on the ATV was flown to an area hospital but is expected to survive. ALGONA, IA (IRN) – A Mason City homicide suspect is in custody following a standoff with police in Algona. 38-year-old Benjamin B. Gonzalez is wanted on first-degree murder charges in connection with a deadly shooting on March 31. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – The state of Iowa will pay $225,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a man who was injured when a state trooper knocked him over and put his knee on his neck during a 2017 traffic stop. The payment to Bryce Yakish ends a lawsuit he filed against the state and former Iowa State Patrol trooper Robert Smith in 2019, months after a sheriff released dash camera video of the arrest. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – The University of Iowa will lend $50 million from its cash reserves to the athletic department, set to be repaid over the next 10-15 years. The loan is needed because of lost revenues due to the pandemic. Despite the loan, Iowa’s athletic department will continue to be a self-sustaining operation. WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The parking lot of Valley West Mall’s former Younkers in West Des Moines could soon become the home of a drive-in movie theater. The plan is to install a 36-feet by 10-feet LED movie screen in the parking lot and show some new and classic family films. The plan, which is being considered by the West Des Moines City Council, would allow for more than 100 cars and includes locations for food and games.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids Police are investigating a homicide that took place just after midnight at a Residence Inn. They have a suspect in custody. IOWA (IRN) – Starting today all adults in Iowa are eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine. POLK COUNTY, IA (IRN) – One man is dead after a two-vehicle crash Sunday in rural Polk County. The Iowa State Patrol reports that 65-year-old David Turner of Des Moines was killed when he drove through a stop sign and T-boned a minivan. The driver of the van has minor injuries. Turner wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. INDIANAPOLIS, IN (IRN) – Hawkeye basketball player Luka Garza has received the 2021 Naismith Trophy. The award is considered the most prestigious individual award in men’s college basketball. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – University of Iowa freshman Caitlin Clark has been named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-America Team. Clark is one of 10 student-athletes to be named a WBCA All-American, becoming the fifth Hawkeye in program history to earn the honor and the first freshman.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Des Moines Police Department has arrested a man after they say he contacted city offices and made remarks about a mass shooting. Richard Wisecup, 59, of Des Moines, called an employee of the city manager’s office on Friday evening. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – An inmate at Anamosa State Penitentiary has died due to complications related to his suspected suicide. The Iowa Department of Corrections says Terry Scott Dudley, 44, was pronounced dead Friday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. INDIANAPOLIS, IN (IRN) – Hawkeye basketball player Luka Garza has received the 2021 Naismith Trophy. The award is considered the most prestigious individual award in college basketball. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a bill Friday that will make handgun carry permits and background checks on unlicensed sales optional in Iowa. As of July 1, people can buy handguns from private non-licensed sources such as websites, gun shows and individuals without a permit or background check. People also will be able to carry a gun into public places such as grocery stores and malls without prior safety training or a permit. DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – Davenport Police responded to a call of a disturbance just before 2 pm. on Friday at Davenport Memorial Park. Police say several people were treated on-site for minor non-life-threatening injuries. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Some derecho-damaged churches in eastern Iowa have salvaged their sanctuaries just in time for Easter. Many churches suffered roof damage, as well as water damage to everything from carpets to pews. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Hawkeye standout Caitlin Clark has been named the 2021 Dawn Staley Award winner, given to the best all-around guard in women’s basketball. Clark is the first freshman to win the award.

MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – One person is dead and another is wanted for murder following a shooting late Wednesday night in Mason City. An arrest warrant for first-degree murder has been issued for Benjamin Gonzalez, 38, of Mason City. He is considered armed and dangerous. BONDURANT, IA (IRN) – One person died Thursday in a crash between a moving truck and motorcycle in Bondurant. The driver of the motorcycle crashed into the back of a “Two Men and a Truck” vehicle. The 32-year-old man operating the motorcycle died at the scene. The truck driver wasn’t injured. CHARLESTON, WV (IRN) – Attorneys general from 13 states including Iowa sued President Joe Biden’s administration on Wednesday over a rule in the federal stimulus that bars states from using relief money to offset tax cuts. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Linn County Public Health wants the Governor’s Office to give local public health departments more say in how vaccines are allocated, and to make decisions regarding the one-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine. Iowa gave 3,200 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine to employees at Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids. Linn County Public Health wants those single doses to go to harder to reach populations, like people who are homeless. IOWA (IRN) – Awards season in college basketball continued Thursday with two big ones for Iowa, as all-American center Luka Garza was named the Associated Press national player of the year and winner of the Oscar Robertson Trophy, presented by the United States Basketball Writers Association. He’s the first Hawkeye men’s player to win those honors.
