DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A Davenport man arrested for bringing a gun on school property while distributing fliers recruiting for a white supremacist group will face a jury trial in Scott County. WQAD-TV reports 53-year-old James Mathias is a member of the white supremacist group “National Alliance.” Mathias was placing the neo-Nazi recruitment fliers on cars during a high school football game last fall when a Davenport police officer discovered he was carrying a gun in his waistband on school grounds.
DAVENPORT, IA (IR) – Latrice Lacey, who has served as the director of the Davenport Civil Rights Commission for four years, attacked her ex with a two-pound sledge hammer and was arrested on domestic violence charges. The alleged victim said Lacey attacked him with a sledge hammer, struck him several times in the head and body, causing injuries to his back and arm and breaking his glasses. The victim and Lacey had recently ended a 12-year relationship.
BURLINGTON, IA (IRN) – A 58-year-old Burlington man has been charged with vehicular homicide in the death of a woman whose body was found in April near a burning car in Burlington. KCRG-TV reports Bradley Wischmeier says he was drunk and had been driving the vehicle around the field until it overheated and caught fire.
DAVENPORT, IA – A Solon man has pled guilty to cyberstalking. 48-year-old Daniel Lee Stone admitted to texting a minor female over 170 times. Stone purported to be someone else in the messages and offered her cash and other “goodies” to become his “sugar baby.” He also sent numerous texts indicating he was watching her, was outside her home, and described, with accuracy, items within the female’s residence. The minor female made repeated requests for Stone to leave her alone. He faces five years in prison.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A man is in custody after a rolling domestic dispute ended in an officer-involved shooting in Montgomery County. KETV reports 34-year-old Garret Horgdal made several attempts to force his wife’s vehicle, with their three children inside, off the roadway by colliding into her vehicle. Police intervened, he fled, but was eventually captured in a cornfield after shots were fired.
DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – First responders across the state are mourning the loss of an EMT after he was killed in a crash. KWWL-TV reports Paramount Ambulance EMT Steve Werner died as a passenger in an ambulance when the driver rear-ended an ammonia tanker on the Julien Dubuque Bridge last week. This week, dispatchers announced his final call. A memorial ride in his honor is planned.
