CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A man died from gunshot wounds in Cedar Rapids, according to KCRG-TV. Cedar Rapids police responded to a report of shots fired yesterday, and found two victims. Police have no suspects in custody.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids Police are looking for a man they say robbed a local bank. KWWL-TV reports a man dressed in a red ball baseball cap gave a teller at the Collins Community Credit Union a note saying he had a gun, and demanded money.

CLIVE, IA (IRN) – Police in the Des Moines metro are warning women to be careful about where they leave their purses after a Florida woman was caught on camera cashing fraudulent checks. KCCI-TV reports thieves are waiting in parking lots for women to go into stores, then nab their purses while they’re shopping.

AMES, IA (IRN) – Iowa native and Dallas Mavericks forward Harrison Barnes returned to his hometown of Ames Saturday to pay it forward. WHO-TV reports Barnes, along with his wife Brittany, presented a $300,000 donation check to fund the construction of the Miracle Playground and Field in Ames.

TIFFIN, IA (IRN) – A Tiffin man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly drove with a blood alcohol level four times the legal limit while his child was in the front seat. KGAN-TV reports 36-year-old Craig Vorba was driving all over the roadway on I-380 when he was pulled over.As he slowed to stop, an officer observed Vorba’s three-year-old child climbing into the back seat. Police say Vorba smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech, and had unsteady balance.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A man accused of robbing and kidnapping a man at gunpoint earlier this month in Des Moines has been arrested in connection with a robbery in Johnston. KCCI-TV reports police arrested 17-year-old James Henderson on Thursday, and his mother was arrested Friday for allegedly helping her son hide from authorities. Henderson and others robbed the victim at gunpoint and forced him into his truck, making him withdraw money at an ATM, and then buy alcohol at a liquor store. The victim escaped, and the police are looking for other suspects.

CLIVE, IA (IRN) – A woman wanted in a theft investigation in Clive has been found in Minnesota, according to WHO-TV. Last month, authorities asked for help finding a woman they say was using credit cards stolen from a parked car. This week, Melonie Mahfouz was arrested in Minnesota on other warrants. Clive police say she is a member of the “felony lane gang.” Mahfouz is facing charges in South Carolina, as well.

DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A 45-year-old man was taken to the hospital after his plane crashed into the Mississippi River near Dubuque Thursday. WQAD-TV reports first responders found the plane upside down in shallow water. The pilot was not seriously hurt.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids is working with different groups to make alleys in the city useable and more interesting. KCRG-TV reports the city unveiled a renovated alley Friday. The pop-up alley upgrade features wall murals, seating areas, games, moveable landscaping, and more. The city manager says it’s a trend in cities across the country.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, IA (IRN) – One person was injured and livestock were killed when a truck went into a creek in Jefferson County this morning, according to KCII-radio. The tractor trailer was loaded with cattle and left the roadway, entered a ditch and came to rest partially submerged in the creek. The driver was extricated and transported to the University of Iowa Hospital.

RED OAK, IA (IRN) – Police arrested a ten-year-old Iowa boy Monday after he tried to sell marijuana to a classmate. KWQC-TV reports after the incident at Washington School in Red Oak, police searched a nearby home. 34-year-old Erin Bartles was arrested. Police say before the incident occurred the boy learned where Bartles had some marijuana hidden and took it. The boy was referred to juvenile authorities.

WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – A Waterloo man has been charged with first degree murder in the death of a four-year-old child found unconscious in July. KCRG-TV reports charges have been filed against 23-year-old Walter Williams, who was already in the Black Hawk County Jail on unrelated charges. The child died from blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen.

OTTUMWA, IA (IRN) – Fake money is being passed in Ottumwa, according to KTVO-TV. Merchants are finding counterfeit ten and 50 dollar bills in their cash registers.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Nearly 400 Iowa National Guard soldiers are preparing for overseas deployment after President Trump said he would send nearly 4,000 additional troops to Afghanistan. The soldiers are currently stationed in Muscatine, Davenport, Waterloo, and Boone.

WINTERSET, IA (IRN) – An 11-year-old girl is lucky to be alive after she was hit by a car while riding a bicycle in Winterset. Trooper Alex Dinkla of the Iowa State Patrol happened to be driving nearby when the accident happened, and heard the girl scream. She was trapped between her bicycle and the car, and Dinkla was able to free her. He says she is a lucky girl, and is glad she wore a helmet. It was crushed in the collision. The girl suffered minor injuries.

CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – A 16-year-old Cedar Falls boy faces charges after police say he took photos of a younger teen changing clothes. The Courier reports that the boy was charged with dissemination of obscene material to minors and exploitation of a minor, both misdemeanors. The case was referred to juvenile court. Police say the incident took place last year when a 13-year-old girl was photographed with an electronic device while changing.

JOHNSTON, IA (IRN) – Police in Des Moines and Johnston are thanking the public for help in the capture of an armed robbery suspect. 17-year-old James Henderson was taken into custody Thursday by the Des Moines Police Department. Henderson is allegedly responsible for a number of armed robberies in both cities. A $1,000 reward was offered for information leading to his arrest.

WAYNE COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A Centerville man was killed in a collision Wednesday in rural Wayne County. The Iowa State Patrol reports 55-year-old Jeffrey Bowen was eastbound and crossed the center line into the westbound lane. A 47-year-old Plano woman was driving an SUV westbound and tried to avoid Bowen’s car by steering left. Bowen then tried to steer back into the eastbound lane. The two vehicles collided on their passenger sides. The woman wasn’t injured.

POWESHIEK COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A black bear has been spotted near Barnes City in Poweshiek County, according to WHO-TV. A deputy and a DNR officer spotted the bear at the edge of a cornfield. They say the bear hasn’t been aggressive, and shouldn’t be considered a threat. Authorities request that the public leave the bear alone, and not to hunt it.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa is making a bid for Amazon’s second North American headquarters, which would potentially bring tens of thousands of new, high-paying jobs to the Des Moines metro or the Council Bluffs/Omaha area. KCCI-TV reports the quest to bring the $5 billion project – which comes with 50,000 jobs with an average salary of $100,000 – will not be easy, as many other cities are competing for the project.

MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – A Mason City woman’s wedding pictures have gone viral. Samantha Clark is a 2012 graduate of Mason City High. Instead of carrying bouquets down the aisle on her big day, she and her bridesmaids carried puppies loaned from a shelter to encourage animal adoptions. She’s been told that all of the puppies have now found homes.
