AMES, IA (IRN) – A Story City man has been arrested and charged following reports of an assault in Ames, according to KCCI-TV. 21-year-old Muhammad Younes allegedly pointed a gun at a man and assaulted him. Police say the two men knew each other. Younes is in jail.

FOREST CITY, IA (IRN) – A Burt woman accused of driving more than 100 mph to evade police in Winnebago County has been sentenced to prison. KIMT-TV reports 18-year-old Sierra King was ordered to serve up to five years in prison for felony eluding. King drove more than 100 mph in a 50-mile zone while fleeing a marked squad car in June.

CLINTON, IA (IRN) – A Clinton man turned himself in to police several days after a shooting. WQAD-TV reports 25-year-old Saul Jackson allegedly shot a man at a gas station. The victim suffered a single, non-life threatening gunshot wound. Jackson is charged with willful injury and possession of a firearm by a felon, each a felony.

AMES, IA (IRN) – Over 100 people at Iowa State University have been impacted by President Trump’s executive order banning travel from seven Muslim majority countries. WHO-TV reports a school researcher conducting work in Iran as well as an Iranian scholar coming to Ames this week both remain in Iran. An Iranian man scheduled to start graduate classes was denied permission to board his flight to the U.S. from Sweden. 115 students already at Iowa State are impacted by the travel ban.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Republican lawmakers have proposed a 1.1 increase to K through 12 education, according to KCRG-TV. Republicans say their plan is all the state can afford.
School leaders in Iowa City say the increase isn’t going to cover basic school necessities, and that if passed, the district would be forced to make cuts.

CLEAR LAKE, IA (IRN) – An Iowa kite festival will be getting some national media coverage. KIMT-TV reports CBS Sunday Morning is coming to Clear Lake to cover the “Color with the Wind” kite festival on February 18. “Color the Wind” is the largest winter kite festival in the Midwest.
