DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – Multiple warrants are out for a Dubuque County man facing homicide charges in Wisconsin. KWWL-TV reports 38-year-old Chard Ernzen also faces charges of felony bail jumping after missing his recent court hearings. Ernzen was allegedly driving under the influence of drugs in Wisconsin when he crossed the center line, hitting and killing an 87-year-old woman.

WASHINGTON, D.C. The US Army Corps of Engineers has been directed by President Trump to allow the completion of the Dakota Access Pipeline. The executive directive will pave the way for the final phase of the controversial $3.7 billion project through Iowa.

HARTFORD, IA (IRN) – The son of a man found dead in a fire in Hartford last week has been charged with murder. KCCI-TV reports the body found in the fire was determined to be that of 50-year-old Robert Major. His son, Stephen Major faces arson and first-degree murder charges. Neighbors say the son had recently moved back in with his father. One neighbor says “there were issues, but I guess I didn’t think they were that bad.”

KEOKUK, IA (IRN) – A Keokuk man is behind bars on a charge of first-degree murder. The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation and Keokuk police responded to a suspicious death Monday morning. Later in the day 23-year-old Devan J. Williams was taken into custody. The name of the person killed and the circumstances of their death have not been released.

MILLS COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A Glenwood man is facing charges for his role in a crash that killed a bicyclist last summer. WHO-TV reports 34-year old Robb Phillippus hit and and killed 72-year old bicyclist Wayne Ezell of Jacksonsville, Florida on the first day of RAGBRAI. Phillippus has been charged with “Actions Against Bicyclists,”a simple misdemeanor. He could face up to 30 days in jail and a fine.

CLARINDA, IA (IRN) – A dog is being credited with saving a Clarinda family from a house fire.
The Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil reports the family dog awoke a 17-year-old girl, who was then able to get her mother and another person out of the house. There were no smoke alarms in the rental. Everyone is OK.
