DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines Police say a man has died after being stabbed early this morning. A suspect has been detained and is being questioned by detectives. No charges have been filed. This is Des Moines’ 20th homicide of 2017.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines woman sentenced to five years’ probation this week is back in jail after failing a Breathalyzer test after the court hearing. 27-year-old Laci Taylor, whose baby died while unattended on a changing table, showed signs of drinking alcohol as she was signing up for probation. Taylor faced up to 10 years in prison but her sentence was lessened to five years’ probation after she admitted guilt in the death of her baby daughter.

BURLINGTON, IA (IRN) – A rash of burglaries where firearms were stolen may have been solved, Burlington police say, resulting in the seizure of 16 stolen weapons and the arrest of three men. WQAD-TV reports the weapons seized included handguns, shotguns, rifles and pellet guns.

STORY COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A Story County Sheriff’s Deputy was treated at an Ames hospital after being exposed to an unknown chemical Friday. WHO-TV reports the deputy was executing a search warrant for the Central Iowa Drug Task Force when he showed symptoms of chemical exposure. He was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center where he was treated and released.

MCINTIRE, IA (IRN) – Apparently it was a not-so-special election in the tiny town of McIntire, Iowa, where none of its 70 registered voters showed up to cast ballots in Tuesday’s election. The Mason City Globe Gazette reports the poll workers didn’t even vote. None of them live in McIntire.
