DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The search for a man police believe shot another man to death in the street in Fort Dodge is over. KCCI-TV reports 27-year-old Levi Gibbs III was wanted for the September 3 murder of 32-year-old Shane Wessels. Des Moines police said officers received tips on his location and with assistance from Polk County deputies, were able to apprehend Gibbs early this morning.
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA (IRN) – Omaha and Council Bluffs rescue crews pulled a 30-year-old man from the Missouri River this morning. Someone from a condo along the river spotted the man clinging to a log floating in the river and called 9-1-1. The man was hospitalized with possible life-threatening injuries.
IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – An Iowa City man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for having sex with an incapacitated woman and recording the acts. The Quad City Times reports 26-year-old Nathan Schloss sexually abused the woman in 2013. Officers discovered the videos after Schloss turned in a computer to show them a video of his former roommate torturing a cat. The roommate received probation.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – An Iowa Senate staff member at the center of a sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuit has resigned. KCCI-TV reports Jim Friedrich, an analyst to Senate Republicans, is stepping down two months after he was named in a gender discrimination lawsuit. A judge awarded a former female staffer $2.2 million.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – There is a sexual assault testing backlog at the state crime lab. The Des Moines Register reports that 405 sexual assault cases were waiting for DNA testing at the end of August. That’s way up from previous years. The delays mean that victims of sexual assault may have to wait months for testing before an arrest can be made. State budget troubles are to blame.
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A photo circulating the internet of President Trump wading through floodwaters in Texas to save two cats is fake. KWWL-TV reports while the President did go to Texas after Hurricane Harvey, the real picture of the cat rescue was taken by a Des Moines Register photographer during the 2008 flood in Cedar Rapids. President Trump’s head was Photoshopped onto the Cedar Rapids man’s body who rescued the cats nearly ten years ago.
