CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Police in Cedar Rapids responded to a shots fired call around 12:15 am today. KWWL-TV reports a male victim was taken to the hospital for a serious gunshot wound.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – An Iowa City student is facing charges after he brought knives to school, according to KCRG-TV. Police say students and staff alerting officers was key to preventing a violent act from happening.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Hoover High School and Meredith Middle School in Des Moines let students out early Friday after the storms damaged roofs on the schools. KCCI-TV reports hail from Thursday night combined with the heavy rains flooded the common area and cafeteria of Hoover High School. Meredith Middle School’s gym took the hardest hit during the storms. Both roofs will have to be replaced.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa’s unemployment rate remained at 2.4% in April for the 10th month in a row. Iowa has the nation’s third-lowest rate, behind only Vermont and North Dakota, and tied with New Hampshire.
