DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines Police are investigating a stabbing at an apartment. KCCI-TV reports a driver saw the victim bleeding in the street and called 911 just before 4 a.m. Tuesday. The victim, a 50-year-old man with stab wound to neck, was taken to a hospital. He is expected to survive.

SAYLOR TOWNSHIP (IRN) – A 17-year-old Ankeny High School senior was killed early Sunday morning in a motorcycle crash in Saylor Township. Jordan Leon, 17, was the passenger on the motorcycle that crashed shortly after midnight. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, a 17-year-old boy, had minor injuries. Leon’s friends on Monday described her as a kind, caring and smart person who was well-liked by classmates.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A Cedar Rapids man was sent to the hospital Monday after being hit several times in the head with a gun. KGAN-TV reports the suspect assaulted a 32-year-old man outside of his home. Investigators think the victim and suspect were fighting over a handgun and that it was fired, not hitting anyone. The two men know each other.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Pat Grassley will assume the gavel as Speaker of the House at the Iowa State Capitol at the start of the 2020 legislative session. On Monday, House Republicans chose the New Hartford lawmaker to succeed Linda Upmeyer as Speaker. Grassley has served in the Iowa House of Representatives since 2007. He is the grandson of US Senator Charles Grassley.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, will visit Iowa in October to speak at Drake University. The Polk County Democratic Party will host “A Conversation with Speaker Pelosi,” Oct. 26. The event is described as a “candid” discussion of Pelosi’s career in politics.
