BEIJING, CHINA (IRN) – China reacted furiously today to President Donald Trump signing two bills aimed at supporting human rights in Hong Kong, summoning U.S. ambassador Terry Branstad to protest and warning the move would undermine cooperation with Washington. Hong Kong, a former British colony that was granted semi-autonomy when China took control in 1997, has been rocked by six months of sometimes violent pro-democracy demonstrations. The clash comes at a sensitive time and could upset already thorny trade negotiations between the two nations.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A Cedar Rapids man has been charged with knowingly infecting two females, one a minor, with a sexually transmitted disease, according to KCRG-TV. Lamont James, 33, faces multiple charges. He’s HIV positive.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – After nearly three decades, a popular coach at Des Moines’ Roosevelt High School has been let go. MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – Road conditions were difficult in Northern Iowa on Wednesday afternoon, with snow blowing onto rural highways and creating ice. KIMT-TV reports the bad weather may be to blame for a wreck on Highway 65 just south of Mason City. An Iowa DOT snowplow traveling southbound on the highway collided with a tractor trailer heading northbound. The snow plow spun around and struck another vehicle. The semi was totaled. No one was injured.

USA (IRN) – It’s Thanksgiving, and almost 50 million people will take to the road this weekend. Trooper Bob Conrad with the Iowa State Patrol says, “when you are driving down the road pay attention, watch your speed, put down your phone. Really pay attention, things can happen quickly. If you are late you are going to be late, simple as that.”
