DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Snow moving into Iowa today kicks off three days of wintry weather. Light snow or a light wintry mix will impact the state today. More than half of the state is under a winter weather advisory between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Snowy and slushy roads are expected, which could make travel hazardous at times, especially during the morning and evening commutes. Light snow is expected to continue Thursday and Friday.

INDEPENDENCE, IA (IRN) – An afternoon crash of an aircraft at a Buchanan County airport sent one person to the hospital, according to KCRG-TV. On Tuesday, the Independence Fire Department and other first responders were sent to the Independence Municipal Airport for a report of a crash. Crews found a damaged helicopter, as well as damage to a hangar. One person was taken to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries.

ANKENY, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is looking for the person responsible for shooting and killing a bald eagle in Ankeny. The fully mature female bald eagle was captured but died. X-rays showed a BB pellet lodged inside the bird that had destroyed one lung.

MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – The NIACC men’s basketball team is having an impressive season. KIMT-TV reports the Trojans are currently ranked 13th, but two of the teams’ leaders have been arrested. Sophomore forward Trey Sampson and sophomore guard Deundra Roberson were both arrested on Monday at the NIACC dorms for possession of marijuana. They were each held on $1,000 bonds.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A near-death experience led an Iowa man to his dream job, according to WHO-TV. Clint Bennethum says he has a lot to be thankful for after a heart attack nearly killed him. Because of that experience, and new training, he’s now a paramedic with West Des Moines Emergency Services.
