OTTUMWA, IA (IRN) – Authorities have identified the man who engaged Ottumwa police officers in an hours-long standoff Friday. KTVO-TV reports police were called to investigate a domestic abuse call at a home. Officers tried to speak with John Steinbach, 55, of Ottumwa, but he refused to leave the house, and a nearly 10-hour standoff ensued. Steinback was taken into custody without incident. He’s charged with domestic abuse with display of a weapon.

FORT DODGE, IA (IRN) – A man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of the mother of his girlfriend. KCCI-TV reports Mark D. Russell, 28, of Fort Dodge, got into an argument with the woman and grabbed an object and struck her with it.

QUAD CITIES (IRN) – Farm equipment sales ended 2019 on a flat note according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. This comes after farmers had a rough year due to flooded fields and a late harvest. At the 25th Annual Quad Cities Farm Show farmers say they don’t want to invest in large equipment that cost six figures due to their low yields last season.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – Leaders in Davenport are condemning a snow display depicting a figure gunning down a snowman wearing a Bernie Sanders shirt. KWWL-TV reports the display includes a mannequin topped with a military helmet that’s holding a rifle and chainsaw. The rifle is pointed toward the Sanders snowman, which has red-dyed snow near its head. The homeowner says he created the display over the weekend to “mess with” friends who support Sanders.

DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – In the Port of Dubuque the cold weather only added to the fun at the 16th annual Ice Fest. KCRG-TV reports the National Mississippi River Museum spent the past three days teaching kids about the winter season.The themes included the nature, history and weather of winter. Educator Wayne Buchholtz says people forget that there is still fun to be had when it’s not warm out.
