DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Department of Public Health data continues to show a rise in positive coronavirus cases. On Monday, IDPH reported 413 new positive cases and no additional deaths. The statewide total is now 31,656 positive cases and 721 deaths. Positive cases in Iowa had been declining since an apparent peak in early May but have started to increase since the end of June.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Four people died in a fiery overnight crash early Sunday morning in Des Moines. A Volkswagen Golf was being driven at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire. An officer was first at the scene and was able to rescue a 22-year-old woman. The four killed were all men in their early 20’s.

EVANSDALE, IA (IRN) – An Arizona woman who was found buried with her stepfather in Evansdale, Iowa appears to have been killed with a sledgehammer by her boyfriend, according to KCRG-TV. The bodies of 28-year-old Elissa Landry and 45-year-old David Batten were found buried in her Subaru Forester in May. Waterloo police arrested 24-year-old Mitchell Mincks and charged him with murder.

MUSCATINE, IA (IRN) – The mayor of Muscatine issued a city wide face covering mandate Sunday. There are exceptions for eating, exercising outdoors, and other situations.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids Police and Fire responded to a large house fire on Sunday morning. While the home was destroyed, there were no serious injuries, and firefighters managed to pull a family dog out of the home safely.
