CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – The man accused of shooting and killing a man on Friday night in Cedar Rapids told police he shot at the man twice after the man threw punches at him. James Siegel, 42, told investigators he had shot Ty Casey, 39, in the chest after Casey threw a glancing punch at him. Casey then threw another punch at Siegel, but missed. That’s when Siegel told investigators he fired a second shot at point-blank range.

ANKENY, IA (IRN) – Police in Ankeny are investigating a Monday shooting that has resulted in the death of a 4-year-old girl. The child was taken to a hospital, where she died due to her injuries.

WEBSTER CITY, IA (IRN) – After a short deliberation, the jury has delivered a verdict in the trial of a man charged with shooting and killing an Iowa State Trooper. Michael Lang was charged in the murder of Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Jim Smith in April 2021. On Monday, the jury found Lang guilty on charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder and assaulting a police officer.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Police are investigating after a man was stabbed in the stomach Sunday night in Des Moines’ Pioneer Park neighborhood. He is expected to survive. No arrests have been made.

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) – With a vote of 7-0, the Dubuque City Council put one million dollars in funds from the American Rescue Funds Act towards the creation of a new permanent three thousand seat stadium at the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville. The city says it will make that money back in less than two years through an increase in hotel stays in Dubuque.
