CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – A 15-year-old Cedar Falls boy faces charges after allegedly stealing a car and leading police on a brief chase Sunday afternoon. An officer spotted the stolen vehicle, and police say the driver immediately sped away, trying to escape. A brief chase ended, and the suspect tried to run away. A search helped bring the teen into custody. The 15-year-old now faces two felonies and three misdemeanors:
IOWA (IRN) – Reports of child abuse are on the rise in Iowa and the pandemic played a major role. The Iowa Department of Human Services says 2021 saw an increase of more than 5,000 reports. The increase began when children were sent home from schools, and were no longer around mandatory reporters. There was also more isolation and more parents experiencing sickness, joblessness and higher levels of stress.

APPANOOSE COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Authorities are searching for a man considered armed and dangerous in rural Appanoose County after a deputy was assaulted on Saturday. A deputy was responding to a report of a suspicious person in Moravia, when the suspect, 33-year-old David Duane Boley, assaulted him. Boley, who was armed, ran away after the incident. Boley is wanted on warrants for sexual abuse, drug distribution to a minor and child endangerment.

CENTRAL CITY, IA (IRN) – An unidentified female died on Saturday afternoon in an incident while tubing on the Wapsipinicon River northwest of Central City. The person who made the 911 report said that she had seen her friend’s tube floating by without her with it. First responders located her body later that afternoon.

DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – Hundreds of people showed up at the Iowa Greyhound Park in Dubuque on Sunday for the last-ever chance to bet on the dogs. The park is closing because it is no longer financially feasible to keep it open. According to Brian Carpenter, the general manager of IGP, Florida had been a hotspot for dog racing, but a ban there in 2020 led to fewer people breeding dogs. The shortage of dogs contributed to the diminishment of racing parks.
