APPANOOSE COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Authorities are searching for a man considered armed and dangerous in rural Appanoose County after a deputy was assaulted on Saturday. A deputy was responding to a report of a suspicious person in Moravia, when the suspect, 33-year-old David Duane Boley, assaulted him. Boley, who was armed, ran away after the incident. Boley is wanted on warrants for sexual abuse, drug distribution to a minor and child endangerment. CENTRAL CITY, IA (IRN) – An unidentified female died on Saturday afternoon in an incident while tubing on the Wapsipinicon River northwest of Central City. The person who made the 911 report said that she had seen her friend’s tube floating by without her with it. First responders located her body later that afternoon. VINTON, IA (IRN) – Riverside Park in Vinton was vandalized overnight Friday. The Vinton Police Department was made aware of the vandalism at around 3:00 a.m. when it received a report of a fire at the park. Officers arrived and discovered a Vinton Parks and Recreation Department vehicle on fire along with the playground equipment. Both are considered a total loss. A trampoline in a nearby vacant lot was also set on fire. Police were able to identify two male juvenile suspects. Charges are pending. ALTOONA, IA (IRN) – A garage fire in Altoona quickly spread to a house, destroying it Saturday afternoon. No one was home at the time. Two cats are missing.

ANKENY, IA (IRN) – One man is dead and three others were injured Friday after a head-on crash east of Ankeny. A red Chevrolet Cruz was traveling eastbound when the driver attempted to pass another eastbound vehicle. The driver crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The truck was driven by a man who had two passengers in the truck. All three were transported to the hospital by ambulance. The 32-year-old driver of the Cruz died on scene. CARROLL, IA (IRN) – Several Iowa law enforcement agencies are collaborating on an investigation of a strip club. A search warrant was executed Thursday night at Ossy’s Show Club in Carroll. Detectives are investigating allegations of possible underage female performers working at the establishment. IOWA (IRN) – One school superintendent has come out strongly against Governor Kim Reynolds voucher plan that takes money away from public schools to be used for tuition at private schools.. Dan Barkel, Superintendent for MMCRU Community Schools says, “If I would lose six students because of this legislation I would be having to take a look at cutting a teacher. If I cut one teacher then that means I might have to start cutting programs.” IOWA (IRN) – After weeks of rainy and cool weather in April and early May, Iowa launched into the middle of summer this week as temperatures soared into the 90s. From Tuesday, May 10 to Thursday, May 12, 255 record warm temperatures were set across the state.

SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – A line of thunderstorms tore through Northwest Iowa late Thursday, causing widespread damage that meteorologists will examine over the coming days to determine whether to classify the storm as a derecho. The storm system entered the Sioux City area at about 5 p.m., bringing with it rain, hail and strong winds and knocking out power to area residents. There are many reports of building and tree damage. SIBLEY, IA (IRN) – Some parts of northwest Iowa, including Sibley, saw a rare weather phenomenon Thursday. Areas near the borders to South Dakota and Minnesota saw a haboob. A haboob is an intense dust storm. They are usually seen in the desert, but they have been spotted in Iowa in the past. WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – A shooting sent a 21-year-old woman to the hospital in Waterloo on Thursday night. Police say it started out as a fight and turned into gunshots fired. The woman injured has non-life threatening injuries. IOWA (IRN) – Sen. Chuck Grassley says consolidation in the meatpacking industry has led to unreasonable increases in meat prices. On a call Wednesday, he suggested Iowans skip the middleman and buy local to save money. He says, “don’t buy from JBS and Tyson. Go to your local markets and local kills. I could go to the Cedar Falls locker to buy my meat instead of getting Tyson Foods from some other supermarket.” NORWALK, IA (IRN) – A groundbreaking ceremony for the new multimillion-dollar city center in Norwalk was held Thursday. The Norwalk Central development will be anchored by a more than 20-acre indoor/outdoor sports and recreation campus. City officials say it is needed to keep up with a population that has nearly doubled in the past 20 years. The district will have restaurants, specialty shops, hotels, parks and trails, and housing.

DES MOINES, (IRN) – A Des Moines man is facing multiple charges after allegedly injecting methamphetamine into a minor and encouraging her to use sex toys. Police said Mark Worthington, 59, injected a minor on more than one occasion in April. Police said Worthington told the minor that the drug would make her aroused. He also encouraged her to use sex toys he provided. Worthington is charged with third-degree sexual abuse and distribution of a drug to person under 18. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A Cedar Rapids man has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to a lesser charge for the shooting death of another teen during a botched robbery. 20-year-old Kyler Carson pleaded guilty Tuesday to assault and was sentenced to three years’ probation. He also must pay $150,000 in restitution to the family of 18-year-old Andrew Gaston. Carson was 16 when he fatally shot Gaston and injured Gaston’s cousin when the Gastons ambushed Carson during a drug deal. URBANDALE, IA (IRN) – The Urbandale Fire Department and Urbandale police are investigating a near-drowning at a hotel in Urbandale. According to the Urbandale Fire Department, they were called to the Ramada on Merle Hay Road for a drowning. When they arrived, the patient, a 2-year-old, was alert and breathing. Witnesses of the near-drowning had rushed in to perform CPR. IOWA (IRN) – Jumping worms are taking over. They have now been found in 12 Iowa counties. Jumping worms are a type of earthworm. They are called “jumping worms” because of the violent wiggling and snake-like movements they make when uncovered. They reproduce faster and eat more material than garden worms. They are originally from Asia. IOWA (IRN) – The humidity is not the only thing giving skies a hazy look to them this week. Wildfire smoke from large fires in New Mexico has made its return to the Midwest.

DENISON, IA (IRN) – A pursuit near Denison in Harrison ended with a car on fire and a driver taken directly to jail earlier this week. A driver tried to elude troopers on Interstate 29. Troopers were able to use stop sticks to flatten the tires of the suspect vehicle. The driver continued to drive on their flat tires which caused their vehicle to catch fire. Troopers then helped pull the driver out of the burning vehicle and took them to jail. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The city of Des Moines has had its eighth murder of the year. Fifty-eight-year-old Tony Earl Arterberry has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a woman in the Drake neighborhood. Her name and the circumstances of her death have not been released. JEFFERSON, IA (IRN) – A Jefferson city employee who allegedly fired a weapon more than 20 times in the direction of three juvenile girls after one refused to perform a sex act in a park has been arrested. 28-year-old Michael Teeples has been terminated from his position with the city and faces numerous charges. DECORAH, IA (IRN) – A Calmar man with three outstanding felony arrest warrants was arrested in Decorah on Monday after a high-speed chase. Michael Foland, 20, led deputies and officers on a chase after they tried to stop his vehicle when they recognized him. The chase went north of Decorah, then through a farm field and back to Decorah before Foland rolled his vehicle trying to drive over a dike. He was taken into custody after a lengthy standoff with law enforcement. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Confluence Brewing of Des Moines has won a top prize at the World Beer Cup. The winning brew is called Over the Ivy. It’s described as a Czech-style pilsner, containing grain from Bohemia. The name is a tip of the hat to the 2016 World Champion Chicago Cubs. Confluence beat out close to 2,500 breweries from 57 countries around the world to win the World Beer Cup in the Bohemian Pilsner category.
