WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – The brother of a man arrested for alleged ties to ISIS is now facing federal charges. KWWL-TV reports FBI agents raided the Waterloo home 36-year-old Wayne Jones on April 12. A gun was found inside the home. Jones admitted to using marijuana the day before the gun was found, and was previously convicted of drug charges in 2000. He’s now facing charges of prohibited person of a firearm. Wayne’s brother, Joseph D. Jones of Zion, Illinois, was arrested last week and charged with conspiracy to provide materials to ISIS. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A man who went on trial Monday for a double homicide in Des Moines has decided to plead guilty, according to KCCI-TV. Michael John Wanchanic shot and killed 31-year-old Heather Belieu and her fiancé 36-year-old Bryon Howard in 2015 while their infant child was still in their arms. Wanchanic was arrested after a high-speed chase with law enforcement and a standoff that lasted for hours. MARSHALLTOWN, IA (IRN) – A data breach has the Iowa Veterans Home issuing warnings to current and former residents. WHO-TV reports the medical and financial information of almost 3,000 Iowans may have been exposed. The hospital says there is no evidence that any information was accessed, but is contacting everyone that it could affect as a precaution. WAYNE COUNTY, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is taking steps to restore a trumpeter swan population in Iowa. Two swans were released in Wayne County on Thursday, and at least 10 more will be released soon. Trumpeter swans were once common in the state, but disappeared by the late 1800s. Restoring the population is expected to take several decades. DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A Dubuque man is deciding to raise the bar for himself as he gets older. So he’s taking up a sport he was good at in high school. KCRG-TV reports 65-year-old Kurt Ullrich is taking up pole vaulting once again. 1969, he set the Maquoketa High school record by clearing 12 feet. He held that record for 15 years.
