DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police are investigating after a person was stabbed in the neck this morning. KCCI-TV reports a suspect took off after the stabbing, but is now in custody. The victim was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Blood was visible on the outside of the home.

CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – A shooting killed one person in Cedar Falls on Wednesday night, according to KCRG-TV. Officers responded to a call of shots fired and found a man dead in an apartment who had been shot. The suspects left the scene before officers arrived.

MOLINE, IL (IRN) – A Davenport woman has been sentenced to spend more than a decade in prison after being found guilty in connection with the traffic crash death of a Milan, Illinois woman. WQAD-TV reports Amy Taylor, age 28, was one of three people charged in an incident where a stolen van crashed and killed 51-year-old Tammy Loos in March of 2019.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A 7-year-old boy is safe after someone stole a vehicle while he was asleep inside Wednesday. KCCI-TV reports a black 1999 Dodge 15000 was stolen around 8:30 p.m. Authorities were able to locate the vehicle and child around 9 p.m. He’s OK, but no suspects are in custody.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Beaverdale couple is fighting food insecurity from their front yard, thanks to what they say was a divine intervention. WHO-TV reports homeowner Megan Ries says, “we’re really strong Christians and we felt God’s nudge,” about what prompted her and her husband to set up a tiny free food pantry. The pantry opened for business last Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. It’s stocked with non-perishable food items and personal hygiene items. Passersby are asked to take what they need and leave what they can.

ALGONA, IA (IRN) – A life sentence has been handed down for a Kossuth County killing. KIMT-TV reports Jeffrey Lynn Winters, 61, of Livermore, was found guilty in October of 1st degree murder. Law enforcement says he shot Randy Merle Page to death in Page’s Lu Verne garage in August 2018. On Tuesday, Winters was ordered to spend the rest of his life behind bars. He must also pay $150,000 in restitution to Page’s widow.

NORWAY, IA (IRN) – At attempted traffic stop in the Benton county town of Norway on Monday night led to a pursuit. KCRG-TV reports during the chase, the driver rammed two sheriff’s department vehicles. The chase ended when the vehicle drove into Prairie Creek, and the suspect escaped. But, deputies were able to identify the man. He faces numerous charges.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Voters in Des Moines took part in a runoff election to decide a rather testy election for mayor. Unofficial results show longtime Mayor Frank Cownie defeated former Iowa Senator Jack Hatch by a narrow 289-vote margin. The election has been anything but normal for the city, with both campaigns releasing attack ads accusing the other of misusing taxpayer money.

AMES, IA (IRN) – ISU Head Football Coach Matt Campbell has agreed to a contract extension through 2025. Campbell led Iowa State to a 7-5 record this season and the program’s third straight bowl game. Campbell’s record at Iowa State is 26-24 in four seasons.

AMES, IA (IRN) – History was made in the Ames City Council runoff election Tuesday night.
Twenty-year-old Iowa State University student Rachel Junck beat incumbent Councilman Chris Nelson in Ward 4 with 54 percent of the vote. Junck is an Ames native studying chemical engineering at Iowa State. She is now the youngest woman ever to be elected to office in Iowa.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (IRN) – A Des Moines man who was once the Executive Director of Hoyt Sherman Place is now the prime suspect in the murder of his ex-wife and two children in Minneapolis. KCCI-TV reports police were called to this home Sunday morning when a neighbor says he saw Dave Schladetsky shoot his two children on the front lawn. Officers tried to get Schladetsky to leave the house, but when they got no response, officers sent in a robot. The robot discovered the bodies of Schladetsky and his ex-wife inside.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police are investigating a homicide after a man was found shot inside a truck in an apartment building parking lot Monday afternoon. KCCI-TV reports the man was rushed to a hospital with a serious gunshot wound. About an hour later, he died. His identity has not been released.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A 20-year-old who was found with a gunshot wound in a Northeast Cedar Rapids alleyway last month has died from his injury, according to KGAN-TV. Levi Hunter Allen Holten, 20, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday. Police are still investigating.

WHEATLAND, IA (IRN) – An employee died in a work-related accident in Wheatland Monday, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department. The man was working on a skid loader when a boom came down on him. He died at the scene.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – In no surprise, Grand View University in Des Moines is ranked as the number one NAIA wrestling team in the country. They have won eight straight national championships, and have been number one in every ranking since 2012. In their first year of women’s wrestling, Grand View already has the nation’s 11th ranked team.

FORT DODGE, IA (IRN) – A corrections officer in Fort Dodge was injured after being attacked by an inmate. The department reports that an inmate assaulted the officer Sunday at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility. The officer had gone to a cell where inmates had started a fire. After the officer opened the cell door, the inmate began beating and kicking the officer. Another officer used a chemical spray to subdue the inmate and staffers used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. The officer was treated at the prison. The facility is a medium-security prison designed to hold 1,400 inmates.

VAN HORNE, IA (IRN) – A 26-year-old Des Moines woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident in rural Benton County on Saturday night, according to the Iowa State Patrol. The car didn’t stop at an intersection, and hit and slid under a passing semi before landing in a ditch.

BURLINGTON, IA (IRN) – A camper trailer in Burlington caught fire Saturday evening, resulting in one of its occupants being hospitalized. WQAD-TV reports when firefighters arrived the 20 ft. trailer was fully engulfed in flames. A man and a woman were inside the camper when it began to burn. The man escaped unharmed, but the woman was sent to a hospital with injuries.

NEWTON, IA (IRN) – For the second time since 2018, a Newton restaurant is picking up the pieces after a crash damaged the building. WHO-TV reports a driver slammed into Moo’s BBQ over the weekend. The same restaurant was damaged in a hit and run crash by a semi in 2018. Witnesses saw the car fly through the rail at the gas station next door and slam into the side of the restaurant. No one was hurt. The owner is concerned as the restaurant is closed for repairs the staff won’t be able to earn money before the holidays.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – RAGBRAI announced a new ride director Sunday, following the resignation of the former director of 16 years and his staff. Dieter Drake, the new ride director, has 16 years of experience in competitive and noncompetitive cycling events. He will be moving to Iowa from Colorado Springs, Colorado with his family.
