MOULTON, IA (IRN) – On Monday Appanoose County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a man firing a weapon at four men out walking. The suspect fired a 12 gauge shotgun in the direction of the four individuals, but none were injured. When deputies arrived on scene, they found the man had retreated into his house. A perimeter was set, and the man walked out and was taken into custody. The suspect was transported to a medical facility for evaluation.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A child was seriously hurt in a hit-and-run crash in Des Moines Tuesday. KCCI-TV reports the 6-year-old boy was crossing the street when he was hit. An SUV hit him and left the scene. The vehicle was later located in a parking garage, and police have arrested 32-year-old Naomi MacDonald of Norwalk. She’s in jail.

DECORAH, IA (IRN) – Winneshiek County is experiencing major flooding. The most impacted areas are Freeport and Spillville. Freeport is currently being evacuated. Other areas significantly impacted are Bluffton, Decorah, Fort Atkinson and other areas along rivers and streams.

POLK COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Iowa State Patrol troopers were flagged down on Tuesday and asked to do a welfare check at a home in Polk County. When they arrived, they saw an unresponsive person through a window. Entering the home they found a deceased adult male, adult female, and dog.The male has been identified as 26-year-old Raymond Lee Silbaugh III of Des Moines; the female is identified as 42-year-old Alicia Marie Arpy of Des Moines.

FARLEY, IA (IRN) – A Dubuque County woman is asking for answers, as the cost of a potentially life-saving medication continues to rise, according to KCRG-TV. Heather Schaul says she wants to know why the Mylan pharmaceutical company has hiked the price of EpiPens, which treat asthma attacks and allergic reactions. In 2007, a two-pack went for less than $60 dollars. But now, the cost is closer to $400. Forbes magazine estimates the cost of the actual medicine is about $1 per dosage. Schaul says the company is playing with people’s lives.

WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – Federal flood levee rules are forcing Waterloo to close its yard waste dump. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the mountain of branches and leaves near the sewage treatment plant is encroaching in a flood levee overflow channel. Up to 800 vehicles per day use the site now, and another location must be found in the next few weeks, as disposing of autumn leaves will soon be a problem.

WILLIAMSPORT, PA (IRN) – Johnston’s improbable run in the Little League World Series continues, according to WHO-TV. After being down to Rhode Island 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning with their backs against the wall, Iowa came through in the clutch by scoring two runs to win 3-2. They are now among the final four teams, and will play their next game today at 2 p.m.
