IOWA CITY, IA – A four-week-old baby and her mother suffered burns and serious injuries when fireworks exploded on them during an illegal Iowa show. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says 36-year-old Margaret Limkemann and her baby were injured when fireworks launched sideways instead of upward at a party Saturday in Swisher. The projectile struck Margaret and exploded, catching fire. The mother attempted to remove the baby from her lap, tossing her onto a blanket. Both were transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

WILLIAMSBURG, IA (IRN) – Williamsburg Police have arrested a man on a charge of 1st Degree Murder after the death of a child. KCRG-TV reports police arrested 29-year-old Cody Stevenson Monday. The child is not related.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Iowa City police have arrested one suspect in connection with the death of a cab driver last week. WHO-TV reports taxi driver Ricky Lillie was found dead in his cab Wednesday. 41-year-old Curtis Cortez Jones was taken into custody in Mount Pleasant on Friday for a theft warrant and a parole violation. He is a suspect in the murder. The medical examiner’s office ruled Lillie’s death a homicide, and the cause of death is gunshot wounds to the head.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A mobile home sustained extensive damage during an overnight fire in Des Moines, according to KCCI-TV. Firefighters said one side of the home was engulfed in flames when they arrived. The roof collapsed over a bedroom, but everyone made it out safely.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Independence Day is being celebrated all across America. Monday night, fireworks and the Des Moines Symphony were on display for the annual Yankee Doodle Pops show at the Capitol. Yankee Doodle Pops is Iowa’s largest and most patriotic single day concert event. It’s also a fundraiser for local organizations.
