MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – A multi-county pursuit in northern Iowa that reached speeds of 110 miles per hour resulted in multiple charges against a Mason City man. KIMT-TV reports Matthew Lowe, 28, is in the Worth County Jail after allegedly leading authorities on a pursuit on gravel, paved and residential roads. Lowe had multiple warrants for his arrest and was under the influence of narcotics. He’s facing charges of eluding, OWI, driving while barred and around a dozen traffic violations.

MARSHALLTOWN, IA (IRN) – A suspect is in custody after an hours-long standoff with police in Marshalltown. The incident started shortly before 6:00 p.m. Tuesday when officers attempted to serve a search warrant. The standoff started when the suspect refused to come out. A SWAT team was called on scene because authorities were looking to recover a weapon as part of the investigation. The suspect eventually surrendered without incident at 10:15 p.m.

VINTON, IA (IRN) – A Vinton woman has been charged with embezzlement of nearly $300,000 from a car dealership. KGAN-TV reports the Ervin Motor Company contacted police after noticing suspicious activity in their business checking account. An investigation showed that an employee, Kelly Ann Banghart, 56, had been stealing money for years. She admitted the theft, and said she used the funds to pay off credit card debt.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – University of Iowa administrators are keeping a close eye on Hong Kong as protests there continue to escalate. The University of Iowa runs a Masters in Business Administration program in Hong Kong. There are no Iowa-based students currently in the program but there are 12 students from the region attending.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Jo Ann McIntosh Zimmerman, Iowa’s first female lieutenant governor, has died. She was 82. A Democrat, Zimmerman was elected lieutenant governor in 1986, becoming the first woman to serve in the role. She was elected by popular vote independently of the governor, and served alongside then Gov. Terry Branstad, a Republican.
