DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A crash that sent two children and a woman to the hospital Saturday night might have been caused by a mechanical failure. WHO-TV reports a man was driving an SUV and slammed into the back of a car with a woman and two children inside. The crash forced the car into two other vehicles and flipped the SUV on its side. The woman and the two children were taken to the hospital and are expected to recover.

URBANDALE, IA (IRN) – An Urbandale grandmother was arrested Friday after police say she left her 6-year-old grandchild alone. KCCI-TV reports Beatrice Brewer, 69, left the child alone for two hours so she could attend church. A concerned citizen saw the child walking alone and called 911.

AMANA, IA (IRN) – Two people died after their vehicles collided on an icy Iowa bridge this weekend. The Iowa State Patrol says the crash happened Saturday morning on an icy bridge south of Amana. The driver of a Toyota Tacoma lost control of his truck on the bridge and it collided with an oncoming Honda CRV.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A new report says farm bankruptcies have risen in Nebraska and Iowa. The American Farm Bureau Federation shows Chapter 12 bankruptcies rose 24% nationwide over the previous year. The report cited severe weather and trade disputes among the problems faced by farmers.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Des Moines Big Band is celebrating its 60th season this year and drummer Jim Kklof has been around for 59 of those seasons. Every Wednesday night, the Des Moines Big Band takes the stage at Noce downtown. WHO-TV reports band members say being downtown brings out a younger audience, along with the fans who have loved them for years.
