SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – A 23-year-old Sioux City man has been charged with murder 15 months after the death of his girlfriend’s child. KWWL-TV reports Tayvon Davis is charged with first-degree murder, child endangerment resulting in death and multiple acts of child endangerment. An autopsy showed the girl had several blunt force injuries to her head and a kidney and had suffered fractures to her vertebrae and ribs. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – One person was injured during a home invasion Sunday night, according to KCRG-TV. Five men, some armed with handguns, broke into a woman’s home. One of the males was wearing a black and green camouflage hooded sweatshirt and another was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a red bandanna around his face. The victim was struck and injured during the incident, before the males left in a dark SUV. She was treated for a laceration. MONTICELLO, IA (IRN) – The body of a missing Monticello man, Jay Hanken, was found Sunday morning in a stretch of Kitty Creek. KGAN-TV reports the location is a remote section of Monticello, not far from Hanken’s residence. A cause of death has not been determined, and no foul play is suspected. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – One person was seriously hurt after being ejected from a vehicle during a car crash on Des Moines’ south side yesterday, according WHO-TV. An adult man was ejected in the crash. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition. AMES, IA (IRN) – The second-ranked University of Iowa Wrestling team defeated No. 11 Iowa State, 29-6, on Sunday in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. Iowa won eight-of-10 bouts, and its win was its 16th straight in the series as the Hawkeyes retain possession of the Dan Gable Traveling Trophy for the 10th straight year.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – One man is dead following a crash in Cedar Rapids Saturday night. KWWL-TV reports police attempted to stop a BMW that was driving recklessly. Authorities say the car took off at a high rate of speed, the driver lost control, hit a pole, and was killed. ANKENY, IA (IRN) – An Ankeny man is in the Polk County Jail on Saturday after police say he sexually abused a relative. KCCI-TV reports Andrew Jon Fisher, 39, was arrested by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office on suspicion of second-degree sex abuse, third-degree sex abuse and incest. The victim is a minor. HUMBOLDT, IA (IRN) – The Humboldt-Dakota City Chamber of Commerce sent out a letter this week saying the organization would dissolve at the end of the year. The reason is declining membership was making it hard for the organization to function. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Former Iowa Governor and US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and former first lady Christie Vilsack endorsed former Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden at an event in Des Moines yesterday. Biden said it’s Iowa’s “most important” endorsement.

WORTH COUNTY, IA (IRN) – First responders helped save a person’s life early Friday morning at Diamond Jo’s Casino in Worth County. KIMT-TV reports on arrival at the casino, deputies found one person unconscious due to apparent opiate use. Deputies administered several doses of Narcan prior to EMS arrival and the person regained consciousness and was transported by ambulance to the hospital. ANKENY, IA (IRN) – An Ankeny man was booked into the Polk County Jail Friday on a charge of invasion of privacy after police say he recorded video of a man in the bathroom stall next to him on DMACC’s Ankeny campus. WHO-TV reports the victim allegedly caught 18-year-old Benjamin Brcka using a cell phone to record him in the stall while he was urinating. Brcka also admitted to filming another male at an Iowa Cubs game a year ago and filming men in the bathroom four different times at Principal Park. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) -Two women from Maryland are facing charges after they allegedly stole checks and cashed them in West Des Moines. The two collaborated to forge checks totaling more than $10,000. CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – Dowling Catholic won against West Des Moines Valley 21-16 in the final round of the 4A football championship. This is Dowling Catholic’s seventh consecutive title. For class 3A, Western Dubuque took home the trophy against Solon 37-17. OABCIG was the 2A winner against Waukon 37-12. West Lyon won against Van Meter for the 1A title 50-14. For Class A, West Hancock took down Grundy Center 21-17. In eight-player, Don Bosco came out on top against Audubon 35-19. WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – It was a momentous day at the Black Hawk County Courthouse Friday as 26 children were adopted by 17 families for National Adoption Day. KWWL-TV reports this was the 8th annual event. Of the 17 adoptive families, thirteen were relative families.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A dangerous man wanted on dozens of charges has been arrested by Des Moines police. KCCI-TV reports Damir Nuhanovic, 36, was captured early Friday morning. Officers found Nuhanovic passed out with a weapon in his possession in a parked vehicle. Clive police had listed Nuhanovic as wanted and dangerous in October. He is being held in the Polk County Jail on 41 charges, including carrying weapons, theft, identity theft, burglary, unauthorized use of credit cards and possession of controlled substances. OELWEIN, IA (IRN) – Jessica Bratten, the former director of The Little Husky Childcare Center in Oelwein, is accused of stealing around $10,000 for “personal use” over the course of a year from the daycare she oversaw. KCRG-TV reports she will soon face charges for allegedly embezzling the funds. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Supreme Court has a new temporary leader following the death last week of former Chief Justice Mark Cady. On Thursday, Justice David Wiggins was appointed Acting Chief Justice. Cady died last Friday after suffering a heart attack while walking his dog. AMES, IA (IRN) – Iowa State University officials are investigating more racist incidents on campus. KCCI-TV reports police got a report of a swastika etched on a residence hall door this week. Last month, a racial slur was found in another residence hall. Chief Michael Newton, with ISU police says, “when somebody confronts them, they take off running…they’re little cowards.” BETTENDORF, IA (IRN) – Four men were rescued out of a boat that capsized on the Mississippi River near Bettendorf yesterday. WQAD-TV reports workers with Lunda Construction, a company working on the Interstate 74 Bridge project, helped rescue the men out of the boat using their tugboat. Strong winds and high waves caused the boat to capsize. No one was injured.

FAYETTE COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A Cedar Rapids man is accused of stealing several vehicles and leading deputies on a chase in Fayette and Buchanan counties Tuesday. KGAN-TV reports Roy Eugene Morarie III, 20, was arrested following the chase. Witnesses said three people wearing masks were seen stealing two vehicles. Investigators spotted one of the stolen vehicles, and a chase ensued. Morarie ditched the vehicle and ran into a wooded area near Stanley. Investigators were able to search and find Morarie using a drone. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Portions of Ingersoll Avenue were closed Wednesday evening are firefighters respond to a fire at Palmer’s Deli & Market. KCCI-TV reports the cause of the fire is under investigation. MILLS COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Flood victims in western Iowa are being urged to take a home buyout while they still can. WHO-TV reports there are about 65 flood victims in Mills County wanting a buyout from the Federal Emergency Management Administration. Another dozen or so still trying to decide what to do. The buyout is a one-time deal. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowans gathered Wednesday to celebrate the life of Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Cady. Cady died unexpectedly Friday at age 66. He has been with the Iowa Supreme Court since 1998 and was appointed Chief Justice in 2011. One decade ago, Cady wrote the unanimous opinion making same-sex marriage legal in Iowa. Last year, Cady led a 5-2 majority decision striking down a 72-hour waiting period for abortions.
